The Rapture

You have heard the term Rapture? What is it all about?

The rapture consists of an “end-time” event that some Christians believe will happen close to the Savior’s Second Coming. The belief is that some righteous people will be lifted up in the clouds to meet the Savior.

There is not a lot of detail mentioned in the scriptures regarding the rapture. But what makes people so eager to know more about it has to do with their interpretation of its purpose.

Some believe that it will be a ‘rescue’ of righteous people, saving them from the evil, and the near-impossible expectation of living under the antichrist rule without taking his mark of the beast.

To be lifted up and removed from the terrible things that are to come in the last days would be a blessing for many! Wouldn’t it be something to know that this is indeed a possibility for your family to be rescued from all of this hardship and suffering?

Well, let’s explore this concept a bit further.

One scripture to consider is 1 Thessalonians 4:17&18.

17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.

18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.

What is clear about this scripture is that those who are lifted up will forever be with God. You won’t just be lifted out of this evil world and then placed right back. So we can know that this will be a rescue when it occurs.

A scripture that leads me to believe that this rapture will be at the beginning of the final 7 years is Revelations 3:10.

10 Because thou hast kept the word of my patience, I also will keep thee from the hour of temptation, which shall come upon all the world, to try them that dwell upon the earth.

The “hour” is a reference to a 7 year period of time.

This 7 year time spoken of is called the ‘period of tribulation’, which essentially is the last seven years that this earth will exist in it’s current state. Toward the end of these 7 years will be the great Battle of Armageddon, a physical battle between good and evil ending with God being triumphant in defeating evil.

This offers yet another clue regarding who will be on the earth during these 7 years.

This battle is again between good and evil. It is quite expected that there will be many evil people still on the earth. But the battle mentions good members in the battle as well. Assuming that these good people are still mortal beings and not angels, we can then know that many, many, many good people will be on the earth until the very end. God will not rescue ALL good people during this rapture.

At this point, there are a variety of opinions that people have. But I would like to offer my thoughts regarding the future of ALL righteous people.

Each one of us has been placed on this earth to learn and grow. That concept is true regarding the latter days as well. Think back on your life. Each of us has had glorious times. And too, we have all had events in our life that have been difficult and perhaps impossible.

To be personal with you for a moment, here are some of the earthly challenges that I have had: The death of my son… The tragic event of my mother’s death… Our house catching fire…. Getting lost in the mountains… and, Dealing with depression and anxiety.

These have been my battles here on earth. Difficult, impossible… yet, they have shaped me into who I am today. Stronger, more compassionate, and understanding. I am so grateful for my growth, and feel that I am accomplishing the learning that I was sent here to do. That is one of the great purposes of this life.

So as we prepare for this end time, let us approach it with the same mindset. One of learning, development, and growth, specific to the plan that God has in mind for us.

He has a plan for each one of us, and the plan is not based upon a “one size fits all”, even for the righteous.

I believe that the rapture will be for those who have already accomplished their earthly journey of learning. A blessing for them, as a result of enduring their trials well. A scripture to consider:

Matthew 25:23 “Well done, thou good and faithful servant: thou hast been faithful over a few things, I will make thee ruler over many things: enter thou into the joy of thy lord.”

And for those righteous people who are left on earth after the rapture, (and I am very hopeful to join this group)… We must first recognize that we have specifically been left here as part of God’s plan for us, and quite honestly for Him as well. God needs righteous people here on earth to participate in His plan, as the battle with evil intensifies.

And for me and the rest of us remaining, I am reminded of my experience weight lifting to try to bulk up my physical body. It is the last few difficult reps that created the greatest amount of growth. Not the easiest first reps, but the hardest most intense reps at the end. I want to maximize this learning period of time here on earth. I’d like to continue to benefit from my development here.

When a person dies, he can not take his earthly possessions with him.. right? But what can WE take with us? We take everything that we have learned and experienced, and the growth that has occurred as a result of this learning. We take the spiritual person that we have become. And we have that for eternity.

I would be honored to be enlisted in this group that remains, and pray that He will consider me to be among those He will choose. For those of you who feel the same, I invite you to have that conversation with God.

Asking to be enlisted is so very different than being “drafted”. By enlisting, you are mentally engaged in the purpose of God’s work, rather than feeling “passed over from the rapture”, now asked to participate in a fight that intensifies and is difficult. If you are part of the latter, I caution you to gain an understanding of the purpose of being here and the fact that you are serving God. Anything less, and you will be a target and an easy pic for satan.

For those of us who receive this call, I have some very comforting news to share with you. Our commander in Chief will be God himself. Is there any greater peace than to know that this will be the case?

Our mission will be different than you might imagine. There will be a physical fight in Israel at the very end of this period, but what will we be doing before that time? Let me share some thoughts so that you and I can prepare by thinking about what we can do. Satan’s mission is to gather as many people he can to “sell their soul” to him, taking upon his mark, and destroying them spiritually.

We are to counter his efforts. There are many on the earth right now who don’t even have a clue to what’s coming. Think of them for a moment. These people are going to do what they have to do so that they can physically survive. Our job will be to seek out these people and save them from Satan’s lure. We will be fighting, trying to save people’s souls. Even those who know what is happening will need to be strengthened and saved. Can you see this playing out? What will you say to them? How will you interact and teach? How will you rescue these people from Satan’s plan? (More to come in upcoming blog posts).

Something else that you should know, which provides enormous peace to me. As God as our leader, you can expect miracles. In my mind, I see righteous groups of people who will be together doing what I have explained above. I also would expect that these groups would become targets for satan and his followers to come after, and try to eliminate. But…consider this…

Think back as Moses lead his people out of Egypt. It wasn’t long before they were targets of an evil king, who gave the orders to hunt them down and destroy them. Dead ended at the banks of the Red sea, they were doomed as the army was approaching them… and then… THE MIRICLE! God created a miracle of parting the sea, allowing them to escape.

This is the same God that we will be serving. He has the power to create the impossible. He will see us through. Have faith that He will be with us as we fight for good.

So as we think about the rapture, it is a natural feeling to want to be removed from the trying times that will be ahead of us. But consider the plan that God has for YOU. He saved some of his very strongest spirits for this period of time. He has saved them to be a part of one of the most important events to ever occur on this earth. I want to serve Him however He chooses me to do so.

I will leave you with a thought that motivates me to do this work:

“Jesus died for me. Are you willing to die for Him”?
